Tatask now runs on Svelte 5. I've moved it over from Svelte 4 to the Svelte 5 release candidate, and here's why, and what it means for you.
Why Svelte 5
Svelte 5 uses signals under the hood, which makes it faster, so Tatask should feel snappier.
It also introduces "runes", a new way to handle state and reactivity. They make the code simpler and easier to follow, which means a more stable app and quicker work on new features.
Reactivity is easier to reason about and the debugging tools are better, so I can build things faster and catch problems earlier. That should mean more frequent updates and fewer bugs.
Moving early also means Tatask can use new Svelte features and optimisations as they arrive.
What changes for you
Pages should load faster and interactions should feel smoother, and the interface should respond more quickly. Svelte 5 also makes some features possible that I'm looking forward to building.
It's a release candidate, so I tested it thoroughly before shipping. I wouldn't push this update if I didn't think the benefits far outweighed the risks.
I'll write more as I put Svelte 5 to work on the app.
